Leading Spanish businessmen have put forward an ambitious plan. They want to create two million jobs in Spain.

Spain’s biggest companies think they can reduce the unemployment rate to just 11 percent in 2018, but only if it gets going in the distressed economy. According to the government’s own projections, unemployment in 2016 still be over 20 percent.

Spain’s largest company is closely following what is happening in Spain and notes the growing social unrest and disdain for corruption both in politics and business.

They are also well aware that many decades of two-party system may come to an end with the new civic party Podemos, although the party was not mentioned by name at a meeting earlier this week between Spain’s leading business men, property Marbella.

But in terms of reducing unemployment, are the corporate people clearly in there voice. In the absence of concrete proposals from Spain government, business men developed their own plan.

It is a top priority to reduce the number of unemployed to what it should be in an industrialized country, they say.

The 18 largest business leaders have established a business council to strengthen competitiveness and announced on Monday its report for Spain in 2018. The Chairman of Telefónica, César Alierta sees the plan as a possible and profitable for citizens to be free from their main concern: unemployment.

The key is to eliminate black works in order to create more real jobs, he said. Alierta think there is a need for more inspectors to be revealed about 827,000 blacks jobs by 2018. This is equivalent to almost one percent of BIP.

The main points of the plan

If it successful for the government to take strong measures against undeclared work, it will create 800,000 real jobs.

An increase in the size of companies and their productivity will also provide 400,000 jobs.

Increased internationalization of businesses will create 700,000 jobs.

Improved training, more and more skilled resources will create 200,000 jobs.

Increased digitization of the economy as well as more funding for research and development will provide 130,000 jobs.

A sustainable and stable energy policy: 100,000 jobs.

And finally – the last item on the wish list: an economic recovery, which will mean an additional 600,000 jobs.

Among the leading Spanish 18 companies we find La Caixa, El Corte Ingles, Mercadona, Iberdrola, Repsol, BBVA, Santander, ACS, Ferrovial and Telefónica.
